Our Story
Style for Soldiers is a charity founded by Emma Willis MBE in response to the numerous casualties incurred in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2008, she began visiting patients at the Military Rehabilitation Hospital every two months, measuring them for a bespoke shirt as a gift of thanks for their bravery and sacrifice.
As injured servicemen and women faced unwanted medical discharge from the military, Emma realised the need for smart, well-fitting clothing for interviews and formal occasions to help with confidence and morale, as dressing correctly was a fundamental part of military life and a new uniform was needed.
She approached various English brands to assist and M&S have given over 750 suits, Russell & Bromley over 250 shoes, Burberry 200 Trench coats and scarves, Lock & Co Hatters 100's of hats, London Sock Company socks and Reiss suits and gifts for partners.
Emma has also designed a black ebony walking stick for those who need one, with a silver collar engraved with regiment and initials, which the charity also provides.
Today, the Style for Soldiers reunion parties play perhaps the most crucial role in the charities activities, bringing injured service personnel, their partners and children together from all over the UK and beyond for the most significant such get-together, including the annual family day at Woburn Safari Park kindly donated The Duke of Bedford.
In 2016, the then HRH, The Prince of Wales, attended the Style for Soldiers Christmas Reunion party as guest of honour, meeting over 200 injured veterans and their partners, and spoke of the charity's vital contribution to their rehabilitation process. The Former Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have also sponsored the walking sticks.
Style for Soldiers aims to offer long-term support through smart clothing, regimental walking sticks, sponsorship into careers and reunion events to the hundreds of injured service men and women and their families whom Emma met over the years at Headley Court, as they so well deserve.
